I am trying to get this 271 baler shaped up and have a few questions.Where can I get the clutch plates for the flywheel clutch other than NH, if at all(no good NH dealer near me) and how much can I expect to pay for them at NH or otherwise? Is there a kit that comes with the plates, springs and bolts or do you have to buy it all individually? Can someone give me a description of what the spring is like that holds the twine fingers in the parked position? There isn't a picture in the manual that you can tell anything from and presently the spring is hooked to the left knotter frame and doesn't look too kosher to me along with having about 1/4" of play. How do you adjust the spring tension on the bill hook roller "keeper"? I doesn't say much about that in the manual either. I also need the springs as they are very different from right to left. This baler is acutally my friend's and he lets me use it in exchange for upkeep on it and cutting his field. This baler used to bale flawlessly until he let another neighbor borrow it and he let it set out all winter uncovered. The chains froze up and skipped time and broke the needles among other things. I have been gradually working this thing back into shape but it is hard to know if you've accomplished anything when you only bale 150 a year or so and it would sometimes bale 50-100 bales without missing a tie and sometimes 10 or 20. I finally got the thing up to my house and spent the better part of a day adjusting everything and fixing some obvious problems. I doesn't help that it has been cobbed on by previous owners, either, when I don't know enough about it to know how everything is supposed to be. The clutch is the big thing now as chunks of the plates are sticking out between the springs. Money is a issue more than usual since the baler doesn't acutally belong to me and I'm not planning on baling more than 400 bales a year with it. I appreciate any and all constructive responses.
