Older new Idea mower/ conditioner

What do you guys know about these? Its the one that looks like a metal box. Fully inclosed.
I couldnt see how it cuts but I looked under the rear and it has metal paddles instead of rollers.
This looks small enough to use on my H.Have no idea about parts or any thing like that, but the price is right.

Kelly,
See my other threads about my New Idea Cut/ditioner. I like it, but I don't think your H will pull it. My Farmall 460, with about 45 hp on the pto gets quite a workout! A lot of times I'm in 1st gear in low range! And it leaves a rough finish, but it dries hay faster than anything I've seen. This is the first year I've used it, and I'm looking for a more traditional 7' cut-conditioner for next year, just for a lower power requirement. But I'll keep the Cut/ditioner for a backup.

cut-ditioners were/are dirt simple and real pigs for hp. buddy's 40 hp ford couldn't hack real dense grass hay with one. only have 1 moving part, the flail axle-well I guess the flails pivot

Kelly, are you talking about NI's "Cut/Ditioner"????? I seen two of them sell at a sale today. Each of them went for more than $1000 and they were in rough shape. I guess they work well..... ..Never seen one in action. I would say that a NH 7' haybine would be better in the long run but that is my opinion..... .

Strange looking thing.
Nh haybines are hard to come by around here. I would like to get my hands on a 7 footer.

Kelly, they might be a good machine for you but a think a haybine would be a better way to go..... .....Are their any IH haybines in your area? They are rated as good OR BETTER than the NH around here..... ..maybe you could find one of them?

I guess I will keep my eyes open for a NH or IH. Any thing green around here is made O gold.
That NI cut/ditioner looks to need to much HP for me.
No hurry just paning for next year.

Kelly, I just got a Hesston PT-7 this year when my Hesston 220 windrower died. I was very curious to see how it was going to do. I had some of my fields that were yealding 5 tons per acer. I only have 45 pto hp on my IH 454. The PT-7 worked very well. I was able to cut the very heavey parts in 1st, and the lighter (2T/a) in 2nd or 3rd. They are very reliable and it also has a built in conditioner system. The main differnce between other mower conditioners and the Hesston pt series is the PTs have a full width conditioner. All the others have about half width conditioner rolls. They can get overloaded and plug up. I did not have a single jam this year.

I forgot about the old Hesstons..... .I know acouple of guys who have them, PT-10's. They seem to like them although they have more down time it seems than others with NH's. My grandfather bought a nice used PT-10 acouple of years ago..... .He really likes it, but it doesn't seem to have the capacity our 489 does though.

I would look for NH, IH, and Hesston in that order.

A 7 foot cutditioner will destroy your H. Needs 60+ horsepower or will over-heat you quick. But the hay quaility and drying time are the best. A flail chopper with the augur door open works good too.
Everytime I see a Hesston PT-7 or 10 somebody is under it fixing chains.
