Does anyone know how to identify the model of a grain binder? I know it is a McCormick-Deering and it is ground driven. The only problem appears to be rotten canvas; anybody know who can make these? Thanks.

If you don't mind my being nosy what did you pay for it? I know of one available in south-central PA, I am to make an offer but I don't know what they are selling for. Haven't seen it yet but was told it is a Deering ground driven stored inside. Thanks for any help.

there may be a small plate on the knotter assembly showing the model number such as "4E".
is it ground drive or PTO drive?

Daniel,

They really didn't have model numbers. For the canvas they went by how much of a cut they had 4', 5', 6', ect. It also makes a difference if it is a Deering New Ideal or a McCormick-Deering.

Where are you located? I know of a Amiah guy in Iowa that makes them. I also know a couple of Amish guys here in Wisconsin that have them on hand. If you have the old canvas on hand yet save them. You may need to measure them to make sure you get the right ones. Drop me an e-mail if you would like to contact them.

My 2 bits worth,

Old Iron
