NEED SOME RECOMMENDATIONS ON A GOOD BUT NOT TO PRICEY ONE.LOOKED AT A LANDPRIDE TODAY,SEEMS WELL MADE.WILL BE PLANTING SOME TREES THIS FALL AND EVENTUALLY SOME FENCE WORK.I HAVE A MF135 TRACTOR.THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ALL YOUR GOOD REPLYS.

I bought one at auction - 1 picked the only one with a 12" auger and I think that was a good move. It's harder to get the hole absolutely plumb, but the larger hole still lets you put the post in straight. New or used, make sure you check for lube. Mine was advertised as used, but was actually new and was shipped with a dry gearbox (crisis avoided). Make sure your 3-point is lifting at full strength. My fluid was low, and the down-pull of the auger was more than the up-force of the 3-point. Got it burried on the 10th post (bummer). I was able to get it out by unhooking and lifting with the lift arms with a chain hooked directly to the gearbox on a hook the manufacturer provided there (presumably for this?) Still lost an hour.

I bought a cheap auger like the ones you see at TSC ect.. It would bore holes, but it prefered easy ground to dig in. I sold it and bought a Bush Hog brand auger. It's night and day better than the cheapo!!!! The BH auger will go right through sod, and into hard dry ground!!

Maybe the Land Pride auger would be good too, but i never used one so i can't say for sure.

Don't buy a cheapo one though, as it's worth the $$ to step up to a decent PHD.
