New Holland 255 Hay Rake/Tedder

Anyone tried one of those NH 255 hay rakes/tedders? I'm going this weekend to look/price new rakes. Really have to get a new one and was wandering how good of a job these do raking. Web site says it will rake a 13' swath. I'm still weighing the pros and cons of all types (rotary, rolla-bar and wheel). Planning on visiting a couple of dealers Saturday for pricing and will take it from there.

I really like the way my 254 (again, the predecessor to the 255) teds. Here in NW Oregon, it's really hard to get hay to dry in early June without the aid of a conditioner or tedder. I found that by well timed teddings (1-2 in grass hay), I could save nearly a day versus the previous year when I had an ancient side delivery rake. It takes some learning to figure out what the best engine speed and ground speed are for certain conditions. I found that the slower the engine speed the better for raking (within reason).

I have a 255. I think it would rake a 13 foot swath. I use a 9 foot mower conditioner set to put the hay in 4 foot swaths. It will rake 2 of these together. I like the way the 255 puts up nice, fluffy windrows. This rake will not "rope" hay. Which is a big plus! This is the second season I have had it and I have not had an occasion to use the tedder feature yet.

the 255 hayrake/tedder will rake from 10.6 to 13 feet I have a 254 rake/tedder the same rake just old number they turn winrows over after they been rain on also combine two winrows into one the only thing I know of is bushings wear out that is on the 254 I THINK THEY SOLVE THAT PROBLEM ON 255 I THINK THEY are worth the money good luck Dean
