Once upon a time, 2 bottom, 12" plows were common as dirt in these parts. Nowdays, you have better luck finding gold. The few that are still around are hooked to some ones "garden" tractor. I have restored a Massey-Ferguson 50, that belonged to my father. I can't wait untill my tractor club's fall PLOW DAY. Yesterday, I finally found the right set of plows, for the old 50. They are Massey Ferguson model 66, trip beam, 2 X 12". They needed new points, shins, and landslides. An old MF dealer in the area, had the parts laying in a pile of old plow parts. After much searching, we found everything I needed to make them "new". They have "trash covers" that are factory original, and the coulters are in pretty good shape. That gets me down to one issue. The "tail wheel". It has a shakle that prevents it from dropping down, when it is lifted. The wheel floats up and down, about 5". I seem to recall the tailwheel on my fathers plow being "springloaded" to keep it in the middle of that 5" range. The old Massey-Ferguson dealer has lostn all his info on the model 66 plow. Does anyone know about the tailwheel? I have spent a small fortune getting this tractor, and plow, just right. I would like to get all the little details perfect. Any help is greatly appreciated.
