Hi,
Shall I use a harvestor or a disc. Dilemma: Harvested buckwheat last year. Deer had tramped down about 25%, wind had blown down about 15% and the rest was thought to have been harvested and in the hopper. Tilled up good this spring and planted to soybeans. At the time of planting no evidence of buckwheat. Well, about 7-10 days later the buckwheat appeared. Very aggressive. Cultivated between the rows with good success, however, the buckwheat is very dense in the rows. Bushhogged about 60% of the field topping off the buckwheat blossoms and a few of the soy tops. Two weeks later the field is a white mass and the little struggling soybeans are doing their best to find light. Those that the deer haven't trashed are looking healthy, even with the competition of the buckwheat, which is now twice as tall as the soys.
Question?? Shall I harvest both, and then separate with the fanning mill or disc the mess into the ground for green manure. How to control(destroy) the buckwheat for next year. ANYONE out there have any experience with this very effective weed suppressor.
Thanks,

I neglected to mention that I'm an organic farmer.
No chemicals.
Since the posting I've disced the whole mess into a green manure crop and will try for wheat in the fall if the determined buckwheat has given up.
Thanks for the comments.

Well, I'll probably get yelled at, but if you don't object too strongly to chemicals, why not use Roundup ready soybeans and just keep the buckwheat killed out next year with a dose of Roundup? I know the seed is expensive, but so is losing a crop, and fighting it.
