I have an eignteen inch, single bottom Case plow that I broke the share point on plowing up a garden for my wife here in Montana. I didn't even know that it was a Case plow since there in no other identification on the frame. It just has the Case name stamped on the backside of the share along with the words "Grand Detour" and 18D. I think the 18D has to do with the size. I have no idea what the "Grand Detour " means.
I tried to find a new one through local dealers with out success. I looked through the local farm equipment salvage yard with no luck.
Several people have suggested I find a similar share and cut the tip off and weld it on to the damaged share. I haven't been able to find any thing that looks like theis share. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I don't know if you folks have Temco parts dealers there or not, but i took my old plow point to the local temco..... ..had no idea what kind of plow it is. he looked at it, mumbled a bit and walked off in the back room. came back with a perfect replacement and said...it's the same as an Oliver. Cost me $16.00 plus the new bolts.

So, perhaps you can take it in for a match up from what they have on hand.

Thanks for the reply, Mark. I gather that Temco is an ag parts supply store. I don't know that we have any in this part of Montana.

You have a very old plow. THe J.I. Case Threshing Machine Company purchased the Grand Detour Company in 1919. Grand Detour had been founded by Leonard Andrus in 1837. Does your plow have a roller chain powered lift on it?
Where in Montana are you located; I'm in Great Falls. Call me at (406) 454-8758 and I'll try to give you more information.

Thanks for the info, Tom. I bought the plow to plow some drainage swales in 1996 when I lived near Seattle. It does not have the roller chain you described. It has a coulter and a large black "plastic" or hard rubber back wheel to adjust the depth with. It also appears to have other adjustments on it. It has a three point hitch set up. Based on what you said, I think it is an old plow that somebody modified to a three point hitch. I live in St. Ignatius, MT. Know anybody in your area that could repair the old share?

IF YOU LIVED CLOSER TO BILLIMGS, I WOULD SUGGEST TRACTOR SUPPLY. THEY STILL HANDLE PLOW PARTS.
YOU NEED AN OLD FASHIONED BLACKSMITH TO RRPAIR IT FOR YOU AND I DON'T KNOW ANY MYSELF. HOEVER, THERE IS AN ORGANIZATION CALLED THE MONTANA BLACKSMITHS ASSOCIATION-YOU MIGHT TRY TO CALL DALE DREYER AT CLINTON-HE MAY KNOW SOMEONE.

Hi Tom, Thanks for the info. I found a link from one of the responses to my post called Farmer Brown's Plows Shop (www.farmerbrownsplowshop.com) that you might be interested in if you're into plows. They don't have one but they will look for one. The guy asked me if the plow was cast or steel. It kinda' looks cast but some of the sections of it look a little thin to be a casting. Got any opinions?
