Holy moley. I went out to the field this morning to take my mower off and grease up the rake and the baler.
2 guys stopped by said they heard I was doing hay.
They wanted to know if I could do some for them.
Well I got another 10 acres lined up another 120 if I could it.
Looks like I will have all the hay I want.

Don't wear out your equipment putting up other peoples hay. Just do 10 acres of your own and enjoy it.

Not kidding. I wish my 300 was going and I think I sold myself on a drum mower next year. 5 1/2 hrs is a long time to mow 10 acres. But its the taking it off and putting it on thats all the work.
I wish my trailer was finnished.

Wish the dang hay would dry. That oats hay that I mowed Friday eve is still wet.

Dang I got alot of wishing going on. Oh well I guess untill the hand with wishes get full my H will just have to do. My other hand filled up right quick. You know what they say wish in one hand and poop in the other. Guess witch one fills first

Please yourself Kelly, over the years I had both types of rotary mower, disc and drum. for laid and tangled crops the disc beats the drum ( God what a bad pun! ) every time. We had a 60 acre grass field which we mowed annually with a 8' disc mower. Going at a steady 5 mph I used to knock it down in 2 and a half days .

No dought about that, but I think a disk mower may just be getting a bit ( well a way bit) out side my price range.
I could talk my self into $1800 for a new drum mower. 5 or 6 thousand for a disk mower is way out of the ball park.
Disk mower might be out of my HP range too.
If I am lucky I will get about 40 hp out of my 300 when I get her rebuilt. Thats not much of a disk mower in the 40 hp range. Let alone any thing with a conditioner on it.
We will see plenty of days till the wish hand get full.

Kelly, Don't let them talk you into something you don't need! We traded a tractor for a NH 489 this spring..... .I absolutely love it! Requires little power, works smooth, haven't plugged it, and the hay seems to regrow quicker than when it was mowed with a discbine(yeah, we HAD one). My buddy was mowing with our 489(9ft cut) and 706, while my neighbor was in the same field with a NI 5209(9ft cut) discbine and a 766..... ....Our haybine could keep up with the discbine and it did a better job..... .I for one am a bit sceptical over all the hype the discbines get.....

Something that you guys across the pond may find interesting . Both the "Haybine" and the "Discbine" never really caught on over here. ( but don't ask me why )

I agree, go disc. I cut a lot of timothy, 4-5 tons per year off 1 cutting. Nomally its really down and twisted. Disc mower I get about 3 acres per hour, less tangled stuff can get up close to 5 acres per hour on good ground.

and the conditioning rolls will more than pay for themselves the first year, especially when the storm clouds are moving. Buy it right the first time, don't disappoint yourself.
