Oh Boy Bob, I wish it were the other way around, because it would be much easier to fix that way. When the short string does not have the loop, generally speaking, the problem is NOT with the knotter itself. I know that sounds dumb, but it is generally true. This problem usually lies with the twine fingers, needle adjustments, stuck hay dogs, or other things that assist the knotters. Look things over in this light and tell me if you see anything that does not look right. Especially in the twine fingers/twine finger rod area. That would be my first place I would start if I was called out to your baler. Let me know, Steve

Bob, Paul is right. This can be pretty tough to do thru a Bulletin Board, but lets try a question. The first thing I really need to know is: "Which end of the string does NOT have a loop on it? The short end towards the front of the baler, or the long end towards the rear of the baler?" The difference in diagnosing the problem is as different as day and night. If you can answer this question, I will attempt to give you some helpful hints. Steve

There are way too many adjustments to do it that way - buy the manual!!!!! NH has good prices on good manuals that will really help you. We would have to know much more about what the problem is to narrow it down to the exact problem.

You can search the archives here & get some good explinations of knotter adjustments from many previous posts here. That might help you figure out which part is giving you the problem. Can be worn parts, no grease, bent parts, dull knife, bad spring (dog?), mis-adjusted needle, worn eye, bad twine tension, poor twine, wet hay, too much bale tension, ..... ..

At least is it leaving 1 loop and no knot on the twine, is the knot so loose it pulls apart, is the twine very ragged cut, is a big ball of tqine accumulating on a bill hook, does the twine come out of the needle, or what?

Good luck. I'm not the guy to explain any better, but hopefully I can help you get on the right path here,
--->Paul
