Jim: From what you describe you must have a number 14, 15 or 16, all 1950s plows as well as late 40s, early 60s. Number 14, built 1941 to 1954, described as a deep tillage plow, available in 3, 4 and 5 bottom, nothing on width of cut. It has cranks for depth and leveling, also clearly visable are the lift springs you mention. It is listed as being capable of plowing 16" deep, with extra long lift rockshafts to give depth as well as lift. I don't think tail wheel is going to tell you a lot as there were 4 available. I think cranks or levers were available on all. Number 15, the one showen is three bottom, described as having exceptionally high clearence in trash. Cant see any sign of lift springs you describe. They are quite vague on this plow calling it a little genius 15 and 1944 and should not be confused with 15 tractor plow of 1957. Interesting, I have seen that genius and tractor plow term used on the number 8 as well. Number 16 also described as deep tillage, cranks for levelling, 14 or 16 inch, 3, 4 or 5 bottom. Clutch or hydraulic lift. Built from 1953 to 1965. Another item I might mention on those lift springs you mention, one on right and two on land side. I believe all clutch lift 3 bottom and larger plows had those. Hydraulic plows didn't. The other item on all of this is many plows of that era were customed ordered and what you describe may be available on all of them. The first mention of hydraulic lift for example was the no. 16 in 1953. I know there were hydraulic lift plows before then. I hope this helps, but will warn you these three plows are very similar.
