The stationary knife has two angles on it so it would appear to be worn in the middle. The intersection of the two angles is at about the middle mounting screw or a little above. When I sharpened mine I didnt see any specs or good part to go by so I sharpened it square with a sight lean away from the plunger knife. The metal appear to be soft to me. The plunger also had about a 1/4" gap between the blades which is suppose to be 1/32. We removed the plunger which has 8 bearing/wheels and found three froze up or no bearings left in them. Between sharpening the knives and replacing the bearings we changed the baler from probably needing all the hp of a 40hp tractor to probably being able to be run by a small lawn mower engine.

Well worth it to go ahead and pay the price and put genuine NH knives on. Will save you HP, make nicer bales and less wear and tear on the plunger and the rest of the baler. Be sure you put both of them on, the plunger and the side of the chamber. I put a set on my NH 320 last year and it made a big difference in the way it bales. Also make sure you set the tolerance correctly on them, read the manuel, there are shims that go behind the knives, I think mine had to have a 1/16th clearence between the knives, you dont want them rubbing each other.

Good luck with the hay season

Most of the knives, stationary and plunger, that I have seen are very hard and sometimes a bit brittle. Perhaps someone made one for yours due to the price. Suspect it is worth the extra to buy one as it will stay sharp longer.
