Had a pretty wet spring around here and people wer anxious to get their hay cut. Seems like over the last 2 months there hasn't been a three day period where there wasn't at least a 30% chance of rain in the forecast on one of those days. Although we got good rain early it seems like once it slowed down, it only rained after everyone cut their hay. Only know of two guys around here who got it timed right. Everyone else would cut the same day and it would rain that night. I guess the morale is if you need some rain, cut some hay. I'm cutting some tonight with 30% chance of rain for Sunday. We'll see.

Around here this week was the first real suitable time for field work. Got all soybeans planted but got stuck 3 times.Hope we can get wheat a little easier.

Send the rain this way(Eastern Washington)!!! I have hat down but I wouldn't mind it getting wet if it means a better wheat crop. Seems like around here we either get dry hay or good wheat. I would like both some day.

Wes.

If not hay down, then the start of cherry harvest is usually a good predictor of rain, not this year though!

Local patterns for rain can drive you crazy. I remember one summer where we irrigated tobacco for 6 weeks straight, two setups per day. Not 5 miles down the road there was an area where they never pulled the pump out from under the shed. We would watch the thunderclouds form every afternoon and go over top of us and rain on them.

Took a meteorology class in college years ago. We kept track of the weather prediction and actual conditions and, in this area of NC at that time, it was more likely to rain when they called 30% than it was when they called 70%. Go figure.

Haven't seen any sprinklers running around here yet this year. And, of course, I have been trying to sell some irrigation pipe during the wettest spring on record. Talk about bad timing..... .
