I'm going to buy a new rotary mower to use with my 8N to cut an old twenty acre mixed grass hay pasture that is on flat ground. I'll be doing this a couple times a year.

Does anyone have an idea as to what brand/s, mower weight and size I should be considering or to stay away from?

I'm thinking that a 5' deck size should be about right but, I'm not sure of if I should go with a light duty, medium duty or heavy duty mower.

What size deck, weight and brands do you guys use behind your N's?

Any help or comments would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I've got a 5' medium duty Howze that came with the tractor when I bought it. It is fine, although sometimes it makes the front end a little bit light when I raise the hog while going up a steep slope...and I have lots of steep slopes. I really beat up the mower on the slopes, but have been able to spot weld the deck together about once a season and it is giving me good service.

So, if your land is rough you probably shouldn't go over a medium weight or else get front weights for the tractor. If it is no more than rolling hills or flat you can probably do a heavy duty without problems.

I would not recomend front weights on a Ford N. The front end is not sturdy enough to handle it. If you don't believe me, ask the folks over to the N board.

I don't know, but get an ocr - over running coupler. It will keep you from running into things! See the message above yours, do a search for OCR - much info on them here in the archives. You need one with an N. This is not the same thing as a slip clutch.
