Finally got home from my 190 mi road trip to pick up this baler. Not sure if this is going to be my winter baler project or not. The mechanicals seem to be in ok shape or at least fixable, but the bale chamber is in pretty bad shape. The right side from where the thrower attaches to the area where the needle arm pivots has cracked and warped. I could cut out the bad sections and weld in some new metal or maybe I could use that section out of my parts NH68. It looks to be the same size. We will see, might be fun to see if I could bring one back from that far gone.

The Thrower seems to be in usable shape. Some minor repairs needed. Knotters and needles look to be fine too.

Got nothing to loose with it. The thrower is worth more than the $50 + gas I spent for it.

What's the old saying? Another mans junk is another mans..... ..... junk. Just took him longer to figure it out.

No kelly, NO NO NO the 268 is junk. It won't eat hay even close to the 68. You will never be happy with it. It will missfire all day long. Sell it, part it out, give it away. Just my oppinion and I've run both.

nice baler not sure but is that the one that had the brake on the pickup side? we had one that when you pulled the latch on the hitch it pulled a cable that droped a pin into the wheel din't realise it was there it sure surprised me.There is also several women around here that have lost hair or got scalped by that shaft also i keep saying shut down before you check anything will always rember holding onto my cousins hand after he tried to pull a piece of twine out.Can also rember as kid first bale thrower having motor on my uncles wern't sure what it could do so reved it up first bale went through back of wagon good luck

hey that looks just like the one i have been baling with this year, the short tounge, kicker and everything, i better go check on the whereabouts of my baler lol!!. yea the one i have i got for free actualy, it had the kicker on it but that he had wanted to keep, finaly he said for $400 he would sell me the kicker and all the spare parts he had for the baler, pickup teeth, belts, etc. i have used it for about 250-300 bales so far and it has been great, the one problem i had was that the pickup head cam followers all jumped out and damaged the track, but a bit of tig welding and reinforcing of the pickup frame took care of that. so far i have been very pleased with my baler. good luck on your project

Looks like a mighty long drive shaft that supplies power to the baler thrower! What RPM does that shaft turn?

That shaft turns fast enought to wrap up anything it grabs in about half a second. The bottom of the shaft guard is wide open. I watched a guy get a big patch of hair yanked out of his head, as well as being smacked on the edge of the guard. He was lucky, there have been some more serious injuries from those shafts. At one time the dealers had a free retrofit available to close up the bottom of the guard.

Another thing about those throwers, if you burn out a bearing in the flat belt pulleys, they will still run, and you don't want to set a bale afire and the throw it into a wagon. Mine didn't get that far, the smoking pieces dropped off onto the ground and were stomped out by an alert helper.

I read a article on one of these web sites. where a young girl ran out to check on Dad wile he was baling. He asked her to look at the bale counter to see how many he had done. When she bent over to look her hair got caught in the thrower drive line and ripped her scalp off her head.
I always make it a point to make a kid check b4 I start any of my machines. They are not allowed to come with in 25' of any machine that is running and I make it a point to point out the danger areas to them.
Dont want to loose a kid indulging a hobby.

I had to kick my self in the butt last friday. I jumped off the back of my H with the baler running. I didnt come close to the pto shaft, but thats not the point. My rule is enter and exit from the front of the wheels when pto is on. Period.
I am also in the habbit of making note of a machines danger area before I start the machine.

One area I noticed with a baler is when you have to refeed a broke bale of hay. Better watch the twine from the broke bale. Easy to lose sight of them and for some reason they like your feet.
I could see one end on your feet wile you feed the other into the feeder with a hand full of hay.
