Anybody out there use a m&w midsize baler? Are they a good baler? Correct me if i,m wrong but think new idea had a midsize baler also. Maybe same baler had a man tell me the other day that i could run a m&w with a m farmall. Just would like to know if they were a good baler. I know also that live power would be a plus and live pump also don,t put up alot of hay and not in a big hurry so can live with somethings being alittle slow. Also would some of the bigger balers work and not make a big full size bale. For the guy,s out there with the old 45 and 46 ih balers i put new twine bills on my 46 this year wouldn,t beleive it was the same baler. Put new springs in what i call hay dogs the four little things hold the hay while the plunger pulls back to get more hay sure makes nice bales. If a baler makes nice bales in broomgrass it has to be good. Anyway thanks for any input on the m&w balers. Sure enjoy the things on here. Keep up the good work.

You said you put on new (?) bale hooks (are they the same as knotters) and my heart jumped. We are new at just about everything and have been fighting with a Massey-Ferguson #10 square baler. We have a wonderful repair person who comes out and tweeks and polishes the knotters and then tests it, all under cover in the barn. Works great in the barn, the field is another story. Got to tell you I'm going nuts. WHERE DO YOU GET NEW KNOTTERS/BALE HOOKS ? Is stainless-steel possible or over-kill? Please reply to [email protected] as I have been all over the Net and don't know if could find my way back here again. TIA, Linda in Va

Have run an M&W baler some and they are OK balers. They have very primatiave monitors with only a light to tell you when each side is full, you have no guide to tell you which side is fuller than the other. I did not like the twine delivery system at all, seems like it dropped the string almost as much as it worked and then jammed up and blew the fuse, very poor system, and the chains make lots of noise as they run. Also you have no bale size control, you have to make the bales the same size all the time or they will not be tight, it only gets the bales good and tight as it gets clear full.

The plus side is that it does make a nice bale, it is a very simple baler, It will eat and bale almost anything, and it does not require a lot of power to run. For the money it is not a bad baler, however I will stick to my JD belt round baler, it is a lot more advanced and nicer to run, and is a whole lot faster when baleing, the M&W seems very slow.

Good luck

As for making smaller bales with bigger bales sometimes we will make them a little smaller for customers who want them we use a new holland 850 & 851 (normal bale size 5 1/2' x 6) I'm sure others would too.

I've seen a few M&W's, don't know a thing about them tho.

I believe most round balers require double-acting hydraulics. Does your M have that?
