We plowed for years with a '50 A using 3-14 John Deere plows. Tough ground, limestone+clay on the hills. 2nd gear most of the time.

Soil conditions are different, but where I live it could pull a 3-bottom easily - as long as you don't put the plow in the ground.

That's for sure. I can't pretend pull 3-16 with a 5600 Ford in sod ground.

Bob,
You could use a JD 44 2x plow, either hyd lift or clutch lift. They came in light frame(10-12),med(12-14) or heavy(14-16) The bottoms could inter-change for width.
You could also try a JD 55 3x trailer plow but conditions are different all over. A JD44 2x14-16 would probably be a good all-around plow for the "A".
Good Luck

I pull a 3-bottom massey harris with my 47 Model A. I was able to pull it in 2nd and 3rd gear in stubble last year. This spring I plowed up some grass with it and I was in 1st gear the whole time. The sod was thick and the souil was heavy clay in spots. I also had a hill to climb. I would recommend a 2-16, you can move a little faster then.
