I have started on the tractor and now am looking forward to the bailer. Ford 250, 14-80. It is now all red. Not ford red. But I can not see anywhere where it looks like it had been repainted. May crawel under it tonight and see whats there. Also I have seen brouchers, where the pickup area is white or gray. The ford paint for the tractor has a lot of orange in it. My questioins are;

1) Correct color (close) for the baler. Ford red (orange/red), Derborne red (a richer red), or other ???

2) Correct scheme all red,
pickup white/gray, the rest red,
or ???

I believe it depends on the year but the I4-80 was red with a light grey pick-up. One more note. The 1955 250(not sure if they produced the I4-80 then) balers were all red, including the tonge. The later models 56-57, had a light grey pick-up, tonge and wheels. The tonge and wheels should be a tell tale sign.

Thanks Dale. Sounds like I got a 55. I looked under it and couldn't find anything that look like another color of paint. Now if I can just figure out wich red to go with..... ..... ..... ....

Wow for a man that just picked up his first Ford baler, Dale has been doing some homework. It does appear that the color scheme changed between the 55 and 56 model years. I can not get to the NH Manual page to look up the 14-80 to see if it shows up there or what. Take the wheels off and look behing them and typically you will find if they where white at one time or not. You should also see what color red it is. If you think you have the 55 then go over to the Ford tractor forum and get the paint codes for a 600 or 800 series tractor. The balers where painted the same color. Somewhere in that time frame a redder paint was used and the orangeish paint got darker. Not sure when.

I'm going to have to do a lot more homework from the looks of my baler. I haven't had any more hits on information for mine though. I'll pass more on when I get it. I do have a website for good pictures on colors.
