I use a Ford Jubilee to run NH 450 mower for hay. Want to move to NH haybine. Interested in older 7 foot model in field ready condition. What models are recommended and what should I expect to pay from individual or auction. Any one in St Louis or mid Illinois area have one for sale.

Thanks in advance.

Charlie, I have a NH model 488, which is 7'. It has done me a good job. When I was looking for a swather I asked the same questions you are. I was advised by many replys to get a NH 488 as they are very good reliable, machines and are fairly easy to work on. I believe that NH still makes this model new today. Anyway I live in northern Idaho "a long ways from where you are" but I gave $2300 for a well maintained excellent machine. Hope this helps.

New Holland sales says 488 is 9'3" cutting width. Better measure that bar again. Or maybe you have a 478?
