Woods mower question

I have a question about a mower deck. I am using an allis chalmers model ca with a narrow front (row crop) with a woods L59 5ft. belly mower. Whenever I get in tall grass...say maybe 8 inches tall, the mower will leave an uncut "stripe" towards the left side. in shorter grass i don't have this problem. The blades are very sharp, i'm mowing fairly slow, and the belt is tight. i can watch the pulleys and they don't slip. I studied it this weekend while mowing and i'm very sure that this is being caused by the front wheels of the tractor crushing the grass. then before the grass can spring back up...the blades skims over the grass not cutting it. I'm certain by the way it's lined up it's not the mower deck wheels but the front wheels of the tractor that are crushing the grass. why it seems to be the left front wheel and not the right i'll never know. Has anyone encountered this before?? Does anyone know of a cure for this? It's terribly annoying. I have the deck set up fairly high too. i would appreciate any suggestions. I would also mention that the deck is being driven off of the side pulley and it is very large so i don't think i can make it spin faster. maybe this is just a charactoristic of using a row crop tractor to mow. Thanks, Kent

my farmall B with a narrow front end and a 59 inch woods belly mower does the same in tall grass and my grandpa that works for woods in oregon illinois says the front wheel might lay down some grass and the mower might not pick it up,or the baffles are not set right.
