I use a P Z drum cutter to mow hay that puts out a wind row from the middle of the two drums. It cuts about a 5 foot swath with about a two foot swath coming out the back. Is there any way to make the wind row coming out the back move over about two feet. I use a hay conditioner to crimp it and can't crimp but one wind row at a time. Any suggestions?

run a pz myself, different situation though with coastal & bahai - have to run the tedder to break up the little windrows.....

wheel rake idea below is a start - only I would suggest a 'pair' mounted on the front of your crimper (if there is room to do so)...and pull two pz rows together into your crimper.....

(don't have & havenot run a crimper - so I'm a little lost on the setup) Had always thought the crimper was incorporated into a haybine that cut, crimped, & windrowed in one pass??

JD made a conditioner/crimper a "few" years ago. It is pto driven and pulls behind the tractor. It has a steel roller and a rubber roller that sucks the green cutting into the two rollers as it passes over it and throws it out the back. Was probably made to use after a 7 ft sickle bar cutter did it's work but don't know for sure.

Along those lines, they make a wheel or 2 that will mount on the front of a tractor, so you could pull 2 together while crimping.

If that works.

On the front of the tractor would work..... .I'm assuming the pickup/feed for the crimper is center line??

Esp.....if'n like with a Farmall M & had some frontend cultivater parts to work with to attach the wheel rakes..(could even pick them up when not needed)....could center one pz windrow - pull one from the right side & one from the left side..... would be able to get 3 pz rows -- if'n the crimper could handle the volume..... .but, would probably have to have a wide front end on the tractor rather than a single front, unless running a wheel on top of the middle windrow would be okay?? (don't know anything about baling alfalfa -- 'cept what I've read--)(so just guessing - if'n it is fresh cut - running on it wouldn't hurt, but if'n it has dried a tad - running on it would be detrimental to retaining the leaves attached??)

We sell more of these 165 drum mowers than anyone in the USA and have done so for 20 years. Just forget the conditioner and buy a tedder. Start mowing the hay at day light. Tedd the hay as quick as possible after you cut the hay. This will give you the same drying time as if you used a conditioner. We use this practice on our 800 acre farm. How about taking a wheel from a wheel rake and mounting on the back? I'm still not quite clear on what you're trying to accomplish with moving the hay 2 feet, though.

I see. The rake wheel idea would probably work, but you'd have to have a way to raise it every other round so that you put two windows side-by-side.

Take a look at the drum mower he is talking about.
