I bought a old 14t a few years ago, I bale my 20 acres and a a couple of neighbors as well, mainly for the square bales for the horses,, (everyone else is now doing round bales) I have a lot of good luck with it,, with maintance, and I have a old parts one as well, why I bought it besides price, is that it has the same knotters as the newer larger ones,, and parts are still available, but primarly for the knotter design and the ease of adjusting the bale

my 14T taught me what time of day the humidty changes and dew falls! lol if i got thru a whole cutting without a untied or mistied bale ,it was a newsworthy event.the cross auger and flywheel shear pins should be ordered in quanity!! still i liked the baler. having a tractor that will go slow enough helps a lot. my wd handled it fine but needed a slower speed. if i got one bought right i might consider buying another. sold mine for about $250.oo when we sold first farm due to estate .

I am currently using this model. I happened along one for sale and thought I might purchase it for parts. It was not much more expensive than a part I needed for my working machine. I brought it home, baled 250 bales without missing a knot, and decided it will become my primary machine. Next winter I am moving the bale thrower to that machine. It can be a good machine or headache. Keeping it well greased and oiled in several key spots has helped. Keeping the knives sharp is a great help too. I noticed how much better the new to me baler was shaping bales and then I noticed how dull my original knives are. Like the earlier post, I too have tried to bale my needles. They replace easily but at $100+ each new (you need 2), for a little more I picked up an entire working twin baler. I can't compare it other balers. This is the only style I have owned so far. It can be run with a smaller (hp) tractor easily. Pick yourself up a package of flywheel shear pins. You will need them while you learn what your baler sounds like and won't be left in the field going after them when it comes time. Just my 2c, keep the change. Good luck

I used a 14T for about 25 years. It worked good most of the time, no major problems except one time it tried to bale the needles. There is a thing underneath to prevent that but it's spring was broken. Mine failed because I didn't keep it covered during summer rainstorms and the buildup of chaff, which I never cleaned off, held the moisture and rotted the pickup and bale chamber. I keep my 24T clean and covered, besides spraying it with oil every fall.

lots of those ole fourteens still in use, no draw-backs to using John Deere unless your color blind. the 14 is like any baler it can be the best, or it can be the worst, depending on how it is or was treated, maintained and serviced over the years. like anything including yourself, things wear out. if this is one you are thinking of buying, get someone that knows balers and have them check it out for ya. good luck.
