A friend of mine recently gave me this disk. Aside from being very rusty from sitting outside, it works well. Under some of the grease I found red paint. And the only kind of identifier I have found is "HA 865" on part of the frame. Any idea what make/model/year this disk is? I would like to get an owners manual if they are available.

Thanks!

Justin: You've come up with a tough one. Discs look so much alike. If it is IH red your seeing the disc is older than 1929. IH stopped using the hand lever for changing gang angle that year, and went to a rope controled latch.

I have the book 150 Years of IH by CH Wendel. The pictures on discs preceeding 1929 are not the right angle nor are they clear enough to present an argument for or against. If asked for my opinion I would say your disc is not IH.

I have a couple of questions. The hand lever on your disc, does it look as though it is an add on or a fabrication to sudsitute? Does the tongue on your look as though it may have been changed? The red paint. Where is it located? Also what red would you call it? IH, Massey, Cockshutt, Oliver, etc. In your picture there is what looks like a drive mechanism on the right front gang. Am I right or is it just the picture? If it is a drive mechanism will it turn and what is ratio in relation to gang bolt? What type of output shaft, pulley or sprocket does it have? There are parts guys around that should be able to comment on that part number you have given. I'll throw this in, may be it will get some one else thinking.

Hugh,
Thanks for the comments. Later tonight I will take a few more up close pictures and post them. Here is what I have figured out so far...

There are two greasable fittings on each gang shaft. Under the grease is red paint. I am not familiar enough with the different shades, but I would guess IH. Also, the same paint is on the drive mechanism and around the two grease fittings for that.

The drive mechanism...If I take the lid off there is a large chain and sprocket driven off of that gang shaft. On the right side is a sort of cam/plate. A rope is used to trip a lever that allows this cam to turn and bring the disk from straight to angle. I think it is supposed to be able to trip again to bring it back to straight (transfer) mode, but that doesn't seem to work just right. The handle/lever has about 8 or 10 notches to adjust the angle, but again there is a trip lever and rope as well. Everything seems to be original..no add-ons/welding/etc.

I will post a few more pics tonight. Thanks.
