Not really famaliar with Krone brand. Local guy has a 9ft krone rotary cutter model am283s. looks to be a little worn with some rust but not too bad. He's asking 2500. Is this a good price?

The 283 is a current model and sells new for $7,000 to $7,500. Check for wear in the gears. The nice things about the Krone is that there is no inner shoe and the direct drive line. (no belts)

Is there an easy way to do this(check the gears), or do I need to take it apart?

I would just see how much play there is in the cutting discs. Put your hands on a disc and turn until the other discs start moving. I little play can be expected but a quarter turn is to much. You can check out the Krone web site for more info on their mowers.

Cool. I messed with it a little and everything seems pretty tight. The surface is a little rusty but all the discs move rather easily. They told me on sat. that i could hook it up and try it out. Is there anything in particular I should look for?

Thanks for all the help
Heath

I would run it and listen for any bad sounding noises. Krone mowers are known for being fairly quiet. Maybe check the universal joints.

You should actually cut some grass with it (as opposed to just running it)- bad bearings or ujoints may not make their "noises" unless you put it under load.
