i have a just gotten a john deere 4 bottom plow which somone had let the shins wear down too far and it wore down the part behind it, i believe its called the frog, thats not much of a problem tho i plan to cut out some steel and form it to fit in there and weld and grind it back to its original shape, however i do need to get new shins and the other part that is below the moldboard, i think its called the share? i know it is a 14 inch plow but thats all, i dont see a model number anywheres on it, i have looked in a few different catalogs for parts and i see that they just list parts as john deere 14 inch plow, were most all the plows the same or am i missing something here? i need to get the parts but dont want to end up with the wrong ones, also where might i be able to find a set of coulters for this plow, mine are missing

Mark,
I bought new shares, shins, moldboards, and trash plates for a early '60's John Deere F145 4-14 plow from Shoups in Illinois. In the catalog all parts were list as John Deere 14" and everything fit perfectly. Pricing was very good.

thanks, that is where i had been looking to buy them, shoups, and i am pretty sure my plow is from about that era, i actualy have 2 plows, a 3 bottom and a 4 bottom, the 3 bottom has 2 complete bottoms on, and the 4 bottom also has 2 complete bottoms on it, i am hoping to put together the 4 bottom outa the 2 plows, both are worn out tho and will require a good deal of welding on the frogs, but i gota get a set of shins to use as a template to tell how far out the frogs are supposed to be,is shoups pretty quick with there delivery time on orders?

Mark,

As others have stated, Shoups is fast on delivery and they appear to have everything in stock that they manufacture. Prices are a fraction of Deere over the counter. Good quality parts and thick steel.

Mark is the 3 bottom a trailer or 3pt? If you want to get rid of the frame and or leftover parts after you take the bottoms off, contact me. I think you are within driving distance.

Shoups is pretty good.

So is this a 145 JD plow? semi mounted? I have a 4 bottom 14" parts machine, & a 4-16 in better shape, altho it could use a good going over as well....

There were many different types of coulters on them, a flat vertical holder, the typical round shank, & then there were cone coulters as well. In spring loaded & shear bolt versions.

So what are you wishing for? I think a neighbor looked for a cone unit a couple years ago at the dealer, it would have been 3 times the value of the plow, and was no longer available.

where are you paul, i might be interested in one of those plows if your not too far away, also my coulters are the round shank mount type, and it is a full 3pt mount plow, it made the front a bit light coming home with it on the back!
