I am looking to buy a round bailer. A guy down the road is selling a vermeer 605b. It looks to be in pretty good shape, but what do I know. He's asking 1500. Is this too much? Which bailers would your reccomend?

Thanks
Heath

That baler is over 30 years old however Vermeer dealers can still get all the parts for it. It is a closed throat baler and if your hay is good and dry it will bale it, if not it will tell you to go fishing. Look at the condition of the bottom platform belt and rubber roller. They cost about $500 a piece and are important to the baling process. Also look at the condition of the belts. In my opinion the baler is worth only about $500 like Paul said and it sounds like he good a really good deal on his 605F. I don't know where you are located but we are a vermeer dealer in NC and have lots of used balers right now. I hope this helped you.

We are the largest Vermeer dealer in the USA and I'd say the baler is worth $500 in working condition. The baler is 30 years old. You would be better to look for some a little newer.

That's a closed throat baler. You want newer than a model C, open throat models. Vermeer is a good machine, but those first models were practice, until the open throats were developed. Closed throats don't handle damp hay or slugs very well. Hydraulic pressure is a lot better than spring pressure too.

I paid $1600 for a good 605F. That B really isn't worh $500.

Ditto from me. Stay away from that baler. F series balers aren't that much more at auctions and are twice the baler that B is. Best place for that B is in the scrap yard. Don't buy something you'll be sorry for later just to save a $1,000. My .02 worth.
