third party image

Here is a picture of a 246/247. Missing the fertilizer hoppers, and with a home made row marker. Also has the rubber press wheel option. Owners manuals available from Deere for $12.00

The model numbers 246/247 are located on the left side of each frame rail near the back. (looking at the planter from the front) You should be able to just make them out if they havent been painted over, or weathered off completely.

Jeff: Couple of questions. That primary drive chain from rear wheels, does it go up center between planting units as opposed to a chain on each unit? Does it have dry fertilizer hoppers? If so is it two hoppers serving each row or one hopper serving both? Is there an adjustable threaded 3/4" rod from top of 3 point mast to frame of planter? The planter I am most familiar with is the 246/247. Same planter except 247 has optional equipment for planting cotton. If you live in north, don't be put off by that cotton item. I live in Canada and mine is a 247 sold new here by a dealer. This may not be right simple either as John Deere used same basic design on a number of planters. Any details you can see would be helpful.
