I've never used one, but my wife's uncle dragged two of them out of weed patches for free and completely rebuilt them. Why? Because he thought they were a better rake than anything else he had. Of course besides being a farmer, he is also a pretty darn good blacksmith and welder. He can fix, build or modify anything.

Call up Sears and see how many decades it's been since they sold parts for those rakes that they sold, and go from there.

I found one that is in very good shape, no teeth missing tires in very good shape, still has quite a bit of paint on it. The only problems is the beveled drive gear in the gear box is broken. I could have bought it for $25, but since parts are no longer available I had to pass.

a good machine shop can take the old gear and use it as a pattern to make a new gear.

David Bradely is/was a darn good rake, as probably were them all when they was new or near it. The probablem nowadays is how old they are, how many numbskulls has used them in recent years without oiling/greasing them, and plling themtoo fast. My dad bought one in the mid 60s and it was a good rake. It was steel wheeled. My grandad had one that he got in WW2 and it was on rubber. Since he bailed, he let people rake there hay with it if he got the bailing job, so consequently it got used all over the neighborhood, and he used it until he quit farming in 72
