Mower Conditioner Balers

I'm making minor repairs to a NH 467 mower/conditioner that I purchased on a recent sale. I'll use it to cut about 100 acres per year.

One of the roll bearings is out and it needs new knives and maybe belts.

I would appreciate any info regarding setting up this unit as well as best sources for parts. (bearings, knives, belts, chains, etc.)

Should I replace ALL bearings and universals or take a chance they won't drop "in the field"?

Some sources have advised using "stubby guards", saying they perform much better... although need lots of maintenance. Are they worth it?

I'd also like to know which models of "used balers" (both round and square) to consider and those to avoid. Price recommendations will also be helpful.

Thanks

I've found that the New Holland dealer is the best place for most of my parts. Get a parts book for your machine and order by part number. No wrong parts to return. It's a 250 mi round trip to town here, the wrong part is a bear! The dealers prices are not that bad on most things that are usual wear items. I used to have a Heston 1090 swather that came with stub guards, I replaced them with tie guards. Uneven ground and rocks do bad things to stub guards. They are great for down and lodged crops.
I have a New Holland 630 round baler and a John Deer 338 square baler. Both good machines. Most everyone in this area is using NH, JD or Vermier.
I did like my Heston swather. I'm using a IH 5000 self propeled now and love it. Well good luck with this season, PK.
