Anyone used one of those tedders that doubles as a hay rake like the New Holland 255? How does it rake? I haven't priced these and am in need for a rake and looking at options. I cut 40 acres of my own hay plus a couple of other similar sized tracts and my neighbor has been raking for me and I bale for him but I really need a rake of my own. Can't spend as much as the R-23 Vermeer makes costs and don't know if a wheel rake would work in all cases for me so those rotary rakes came to mind but I don't know anything about them.
Thanks for any comments.

The NH 225 rakes to the center of the rake not the side. If you ever have light hay it is very hard to turn 2 windrows together. The Wheel rake will do a great job in all hay. Sudan grass & Tall Rye you will have to adjust the rake for but all other crops rake the same. A V-Wheel rake buys time for a farmer. The 8 wheel rakes rake 10-20 acres an hour.

I have a Hesston tedder ordered. I don't have enough HP to use the tedder/rake combo and don't have the experience your asking about. I did however price the NH and several other tedders before buying the Hesston. Significantly less money. Folks on this site indicated the Hesston was a good product. I do about as much has as you do. Hope this helps.
