Paul: I think you should look at possability of droping 1 bottom, 8N is a good little tractor, but not that good. On the plow going too deep, don't fret about the point build up having too much suck. How good is the long landside on the rear bottom? Does that plow have a tail wheel, and is it in good shape? The combination of tail wheel and or long landside, coupled with length of top link should control depth of plow. If items on back of plow are in good shape, lengthing top link should reduce plow depth. On the other end of spectrum, plows with poor points, will not stay down no matter how you adjust. You have one item right, now just correct the other. Also Cockshutt although they didn't last long in the 20th century, were without question the best on plows and other tillage equipment. Their disc harrows were number one. Back in the 1950s when everyone else were piling rocks on their discs, Cockshutt didn't need it. I remember Cockshutt dealer bringing my dad a wheel controlled 8', 28 blade, 16" blades to try out. My dad though it should have been larger until he hooked the Farmall 300 to it and started discing. Take that from an old Farmall guy.
