Having owned a couple of 336 balers once upon a time, here's a few things to check. 1) flywheel should not be loose and wobbly on the shaft! People tend to neglect the adjustment nut in the hub. 2) Check the feeder fork for slop. There are plastic bearings in there that can wear and let the thing get loose. Check the chain that runs the fork for wear, as well. Trust me, a little slop up here can wreak havoc with the fork-to-plunger timing. 3) check the pin that holds the pitman arm to the plunger. These often do not get greased like they should and the journal and/or the pin wear, which eventually causes a failure, and the pitman slaps around in the front and the plunger goes out the back (don't ask me how I know about that one!). 4) If the baler has or has had an ejector on it, the bale case may have stress cracks or a twist to it. 5) Inspect the wagon hitch if the baler has one. When used on hillsides with wagons behind, the hitches tended to bend and/or break.

Jim is right, everything the same except the head and flywheel, plus the 346 is more strokes per min.

Can't answer your question for sure, but I suspect it may be bale size. ie 14x14 or 14X16. Check with you dealer. May be some other difference in features- width of pickup, tooth spacing, etc.
