Does anyone know if IH made a mounted mower for the Farmall C? I bought one that's supposedly it, but the mounting plates are much wider than the rear end. Did it mount to special axle brackets? Anyone have any information?

I have one that came with my C along with a 2 bottom plow. They both attach to the rear axle with a pair of clamps that go around the axle and have swiveling bolts that project to the rear for the implement to mount to. With the plow,it holds the lifting mechanisim, with the mower, it holds the whole assembly. If these guys don't have a picture, I will try and take one for you. They mount in different positions for each implement and I understood that other IH attachments used these same attachment brackets. You could fabricate them yourself, or maybe one of the tractor junkyards have some. I never did get the hang of mowing with it and got an old pull behind bush hog. Good luck

Yes they made one. It mounts to the axle housing with a diamond shaped clamp that flips over the housing and is tightened down. If you need a picture let me know I can take one if its not covered with snow. The one I have doesn't have a tailwheel.

I would appreciate a picture. No axle clamps came with the mower when I bought it, so I'd like to know what to look for.

Larry: IH built several mowers with a rear caster wheel. They had a cross bar across the front designed to bolt to the H and M type drawbar. Apparently there was hardware to mount those drawbars on a C or SC. I can understand this as these same mowers would bolt to A and SA drawbar. Over the years there were several models.

The completely mounted mower was the No 16, I have seen local fabrications on that one to mount on just about anything. New I suspect there were brackets for mounting on C or SC, clamping it to axle carriers. On the A or SA it just bolts on where drawbar bolts to final drives.

In my area the caster wheel models were most popular, as they were much quicker to mount. My dad had one, You could hitch to H in 5 minutes, and without any alterations you could hitch to SA tomorrow in 5 min.

Yes, my dad has one too. I've used this many times to mow around pastures and mow out the creeks. Usually takes us a bit longer however to mount ours ... does your's have special stands for storage? We just use an old bumper jack under the right frame rail, but the cutterbar spring wants to lift the left side.
