What is a Middle Buster good for? I've heard you can dig potatoes with them, anybody tried this? It looks like it would be good for making trenches, any comments? They're on sale at the TSC.

Middle busters are used to throw up a row to plant on. Yes, they are excellent for diggin' taters. I have used one to dig a shallow trench for a water line. They are useful.

I've had one for a bit over a year. I don't know about digging potatoes, someone else will have to comment on that. I bought it as a cheap way to tear up the ground where I wanted to put in a yard and garden. It worked pretty well for this except where the ground was overly packed. When I ran into this the thing would pop out of the ground or grab and I'd spin the tires. Where the ground was not so packed it worked great. As far as trenching it works only so/so. It works great if you don't need to trench too deep. If you want to trench deep you run into two problems. The first is you are limited obviously by how far it can dig, and secondly when you are digging deep the trench isn't cleaned out. But, overall I've got a lot of use out of it and the $100 it cost me was pretty well spent.
