Has any one out there tried to use treated pine lumber for pitman rods. Are they worth the aggravation to build yourself or should I just go to the dealer.

I made a couple out of a piece of pressure treated 2x4 - a couple of years ago - took less than an hour to make them both - and they don't rot - they are easy to make - definitely do it again 0 just make more than one if u are going to do it

Check around. We get ours at a local farm store for under $10. I couldn't make one for that, unless you just like woodworking and have the tools. I don't know what they cost at the dealer. If you make your own, my guess would be that pine would break too easily. It would be best to stick with hardwoods.

I've made lots of them. I've never used pine. I use either Maple or Oak. Most of them I've made were Oak because it's easier to get. I always have one hanging on the wall during hay season. You never know when you will need one! They are easy to make and far less expensive than the dealer.
