Anyone ever use one of those 3-point tree cutters that has two large pruner type blades that will cut trees (2"-4" trunks) off level at the ground? Kinda looks like giant pruning sheers, powered by a hydraulic cylinder. I have about 25 acres of mesquite brush to clear so I can then brush hog.

Land Pride has a cutter that would probably work for you?? You can see a picture of it in my "Louisville 2003" pictures at the link below. The video i saw of it in action was pretty impressive!! Robert

Two bit, I have used a Tree Terminator on a 753 Melroe Bobcat. This one would cut trees up to 8 to 10 in diameter. Works great ,best on a bobcat!! But, Mesquite SPRAY first, kill it then cut it off at the ground. (Remendy & Diesel) or Crossbow & Crop oil & H20 . Spray just after it flushes up . That will be here pretty quick in Texas. If you cut it off before you poison it you will have H--- of a mess on you hands. For after it is cut off, then starts to grow back, you can't get enough poison into the new growth to kill the 5 to 6 yrs old rootsystem. After you poisioned and cleaned the land then you can use a shredder to keep it clean. IMO.
Good Luck,
John A.

Thanks John,
Yes I'm very familiar with the "make sure it is poisoned dead before cutting it down", even letting them stand for a year after spraying. I'm thinking of maybe making (save some dollars over buying one)a terminator type cutter to avoid chain saw work since the chains dull so fast when you get them in or close to the dirt cutting stumps off low enough to not hit with the brushhog or ruin a tire. I saw a similar machine like you mentioned in our rural electric coop magazine but haven't found anyone around here (SW Texas) that had one so that I could ask if they liked them. I'd be using a Farmall H with two-way hyd. Skid steer would be more manuverable than a tractor I imagine.
