I have a NH 271 square baler that will miss a tie every 20-30 bales. It is always the right side that doesn't tie. The twine from the missed bale is always tied with the knot of the next bale. Sometimes it will miss 2-3 in a row and the twine will be all wrapped up around the billhook and has to be cut out. Any suggestions to where to start. Thanks, Jay

Check your wiper arm and make sure it rubs the billhook and goes past the billhook about 3\8 or 1\2 inch also make sure the knife is sharp and you can replace it if you like also if there is too much tension on the twine holder this will put a strain on the knot because when the billhook turns it pulls some twine from the holder or supposed to if not too tight and this can cause the knot to hang on billhook,if this does not help let me know and there is some other things to do but usually this will cure the problem and remember don't tighten the bale tension down too tight cause this is one of the biggest problems that I see. Hope this helps

I have an extra manual for the 273, knotters should be the same. Email me if you are interested.

check the brass cam balls and the brass twine cam . also the play in the knotter stack. as the other poster said get a manuel and if possible the dealer knotter set up manuel and parts book . we go over our knotters twice a season to make sure that the brass are rotating and stack is tight . if you can not get the dealer parts book will try and find mine

I had an Allis Chalmers 300 with Rasspe knotters that used to do that occasionally. Usually the problem was lack of twine tension on that side "knots hanging on bill-hook"

Or.....the stripper on the knife arm could be worn, or even bent out of shape and so the knot is not been stripped off the billhook,

Or..... there is too much tension on the bill hook cam, preventing the knife arm moving the knot off the billhook
But it is a long time since I used a square baler so I could be wrong, and unless the knotter is of the "Rasspe" type as used in UK New Holland balers all of the above will be garbage!

I'll ask this first. Do you have a manual for this baler? If not, go to your New Holland dealer and get one. It's worth the few dollars.
