I JUST BOUGHT A OLD 10 FT JD BW DISK.IT DOES NOT HAVE SEALED BEARINGS ON IT. IT LOOKES LIKE TO ME THAT IT JUST METAL TO METAL AND YOU JUST GRESSE THEM GOOD.
BUT THE PROBLEM THAT I AM SEEING IS I CAN MOVE THE
DISK SHAFT UP &DOWN IN SIDE THE BEARING HUB.DOES THIS MEAN THAT ALL THE GRESSE IS OUT OF IT,OR IS THERE SOME THING WEAR IS THE HUB.ONE GUY TOLD ME NOT TO WEREY ABOUT IT THAT ONCE I REGRESSE IT IT WILL BE OK.ONE OTHER GUY TOLD ME THAT SOME OF THESE OLD DISKES HAD HARD WOOD IN THE BEARINGS. THAT ACTED LIKE A RACE AND THAT THE WOOD IS JUST WAR OUT.SO WHO IS RIGHT.

Mark, are you sure what you have is a BW? I was always under the impression that all BW's had tapered roller bearings on the gang shaft. (I used to be a John Deere parts man.) I may be wrong, but it sounds like you could have an RW. A BW will have a box-beam frame and adjustable gang angle, while the RW will have a channel frame and fixed gang angle. The BW will have 8 1/2" blade spacing, while the RW will have 7 1/8". The RWA (which is a later version of an RW) also has 8 1/2" spacing, but will have sealed ball bearings on the gangs. Hope this doesn't confuse too much. Go to your dealer. He will have pictures of the different disks so you can identify yours. Mike

My BW (19' with wings) has dual tapered roller bearings in each bearing pedestal.

Shoup (800-627-6137) shows that bearing as their SH-22603 ($43.42 each) but says it fits BW except 8'6" and 9'10". I was able to find enough good bearings on the wings I removed to fix my BW last year.

Ask your JD parts desk what it has. They have it on their computer.

Gerald

Both the JD bearing & Shoup bearing work fine on my 19' BW disk. Both were actually the same Timpkins bearing - NAPA can order them too _if_ they get the Timpkins part number.

Sounds like his is not a BW after all. Another possibility is that, like my disk when I got it, the tapper bearings are worn out of it, & the 2 races are just running on each other.....
