What's causing the needles to trip randomly at mid bale? Sometimes it will go good for a few bales then trip at the wrong time and sheer the flywheel sheer pin.Any help? Than

Hello, I am trying to get a new holland 66 baler in working condition. We were shearing the flywheel bolts but I finally got that fixed. Now, the twine is not only not going into the hooks but the needles now are not even raising up to thread the twine to the knotters. We cannot get the needles to go up, I cannot figure out the problem, the owners manual does not have anything in it at all about that. I was beginning to tie however, something happened and now the needles aren't moving and threading the knotters. The hay is going through but that is all that is happening. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

Bruce, there is really no wrong time for the needles to trip. If you are breaking the flywheel bolt, is it possible the needle/knotter brake is too loose, therefore allowing the needles to "drift" down or front whick allows the safety latch to move in front of the plunger? Or, perhaps it begins to tie, but the knotter drive latch unhooks mid-cycle. If the knotters/needles stop their rotation part way thru the cycle, the flywheel bolt will shear. This can happen when the knotter latch spring is unhooked or broken. But there is no wrong time to trip and tie. You can tie bales 6" long or 6' long. Steve
