Tell me fellers, does field corn still work for sweet corn as far as good taste is concerned, for a market garden, or has the new sweet corn varietys outpassed the taste of field corn. I never knew what true sween corn tasted like as a kid, and we would go out to the field in a 1958 Buick, as dad had taken the pk to work, and fill it full, trunk and back seat and floorboards and bring it home and can it, and thats all we knew. Ive got a bag and a 1/2 of last years field corn seed, im going to use some of for skips in my field corn field, and if it would work for sweet corn id plant another 2 acre field for that purpose. Ill spray it much more intensly than the field corn

plant the corn in a different feild and pick it or combine it with the rest. I have an 80 acre farm usually 10-15 of corn each year and this past year planted one 5 acre strip of someone elses throw away seed corn. could not tell the difference between that and the $85 a bag stuff I had bought. I drive garbage truck as full time job and have four bags of soybean seed ready to plant next spring. I'll just plant a little thicker than most. most people would not beleive the money you can save in lumber for fences etc. just by pulling a few nails. I have a 10x20 chicken coop and 16x24 calf shed that I have a little more than the cost of nails in. One man's trash is another's treasure especially around the farm.

Bill: Don't think that will work anymore. The buying public is smarter and the ones that cant tell difference want peaches and cream. You could haul as much corn in the trunk of the 58 Buick as most pickups today. My dad had a 59 Chevy Impalla, used to haul ton of dairy feed, fill the trunk and pile rest on fins.
