My 24T baler is engine-driven,Wis 2-cyl. It is way underpowered for what the baler can handle. I've been thinking about mounting another 2-cyl over the plunger area and belting to the existing flywheel, either by turning v-belt grooves in the flywheel or fabricating a pulley to bolt to the side of it for the extra engine. Has anyone ever done anything like this? I pull the baler with a Ford 9N, so PTO is not an option. TIA

Just curious- what tonnage square bales are you making to need the extra power?

V belts can do a good job on a flat pulley if it is considerably bigger than the smaller V pulley on the engine. The flat surface against the pulley should probably be no less surface area than the area the sides of the belt run against on the V pulley. If you try it and it doesn't work, it will cost no more later to get the grooves cut in. I don't know anything about whether or not the baler can take the extra power.

You don't know whether a 24t can take the extra power of TWO Wisconsin v-twin engines? The PTO version works fine with a 100hp tractor, my 337 which is the same size as a 24t only 15 years newer does great with 100hp.

The only possibility of a problem is if the belt drive from the engine(s) isn't up to the delivery of the power. That won't make it the baler's fault if the jury rigged extra engine isn't quite right in how it's installed.

I don't have a V4, but I do have 3 2-cyls. Most hay is no problem. But when I get into Canary grass or rye straw or a new seeding that is well fertilized I have to creep and stop in order to avoid stalling the engine. I know a rebuild would help some but I have these extra engines. As far as overloading, isn't that what shear pins are for? By the way, these bales weigh between 40 and 50#. When I told my dealer I was retiring the 14T and was the 24T bigger, he said it wouldn't matter unless I went to PTO. Thanks for your replies.
