Dear all,

I have recently purchased a Masey Harris 701 baler. It is pretty much the same as the No. 1 but powered by a 4 cylinder standard engine, the same as in the TE20 fergies.

I was wondering if the pickup fingers are the same in this balers as in later Massey ferguson balers.

Thanks in advance,
Damon

Being a model #701 I assume it is British made. I find it interesting that it has a water cooled engine on it. I have the same baler (model #1) with a 4 cyl. Wisconsin air cooled engine. Can you take a picture of it and post it on the 'Implement Photo' page? You got a rare unit, we would all like to see it. I don't know if the pick-up fingers are the same as the #3. What I did was cut the finger rods off a brand X and welded it to the spring piece.

Terry, yes it is a British made baler. I will post pictures when they are developed (sorry haven't got a digital camera, another thing on the every lengthening wish list).

Did the welds hold up? I found a massey pickup finger that is pretty much the same on the weekend but they are 25 dollars Australian and it would end up costing as much as the baler did in the first place.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will look into it.

Damon

Rick,
thanks for the offer but I am guessing by your email you live in Iowa in the US. I am located in Australia.

Thanks anyway,
Damon
