anybody got any comments on taking care of ear worm in sweet corn. What to use, and how, on 2 acres. Also, in this wick deal, can I use my regular sprayer tank to do this. Do I still use my pump, or is it gravety dropped? How far apart should the ropes be from each other, and how far off the ground? Thanks.

Thanks for all the inputs, last year I use nothing and ended up with Velvet left taller than the corn, still had a pretty fair corn harvest. I plant with a old 2 row planter, but leave extra space between the 2 rows so I can drive my garden tractor and cart between them and pick from the seat. I cultivate, so the problem is in the corn row itself. I am thinking about putting drop nozzles on so I spray near the base of the corn not on the leaves. Russ

What is a wiper set up. I am planing on planting a few ac of sweet corn and have a 15 gal spray tank for atv. This sounds like something I would like to do to keep the weeds down.

A wiper is also known as a rope wick or sponge wick. Roundup and water solution is put into a tank or reservoir and is "wicked" through the rope or sponge. Some are built of PVC pipe, with nylon ropes mounted in holes in the pipe. The solution is put directly in the pipe, the ropes get wet and whatever foliage is touched gets a treatment of Roundup. The necessary part of this system is difference in weed height and crop height. If using in sweet corn, I suspect that the weeds may not outgrow the corn for effective contol without losing crop.

JD, I don`t know how much corn you have to spray but have you thought of trying a wiper set up and using Round-Up? That way no chemicals in the corn and still have clean rows.

not the best view of sprayer but look to left side of pic and you will see a 1 row boom. works great to spray the veggies. have used it to spray pre-emerge also.

What kind of plow is that in the picture. Looks like a 3 blade pan plow?

I have one of the 15 gallon ones that mounts on the back of an ATV with a boom kit. We used it to spray herbicides and insecticides on Alfalfa in the spring mounted to a Gator. Let us get on fields when there wasn't a prayer with the bigger equipment. Worked great
