I have a '48 8N, and have about 4 acres that needs to be cut a couple of times a summer. What is the proper size and type of mower for my tractor? And what should a good used one cost me?

I have a '51 8n and I use a 5 foot mower. They will usually cost between $500 - $600.

My father in law has a 4ft and my uncle uses a 6 ft brushhog, both on 8n's The 8n will lift either with no problems at all, if your lift is working properly. So its up to you. For 4 acres, I'd guess either would do.

I don't know anything about prices used.

: I would use a 5 ft bushhog with an 8n. Expect to pay about 300 dollars. Do not foget the override clutch.

My pa in law uses a five footer and has had it try to run him into trees and stuff. Where might one find this override clutch? Thanks Me

Any tractor/ag supply store would have them. One the net, try Agri-Supply www.agri-supply.com They cost about $40 and ratchet when the Hog tries to push the machine. They fit on the PTO shaft and extend it a few inches, so you might have to shorten the PTO drive shaft.....

You can buy an overrunning clutch from the sponsors of this site or from new Holland. ABout $10 difference in price. I just bought a NH one for $65 - no cutting of shaft was required for me - make sure you know the size of your PTO shaft - 1 1/8 or 1 3/8.
