as a new holland mechanic for the past 26 years I have a real interest in NH equipment but cant find any web sites related to such. the company has such a rich history and build many different products over the years.

There is a book titled A CENTURY OF FORD AND NEW HOLLAND FARM EQUIPMENT published by ASAE by Norm Swinford (who also published a book about Allis Chalmers equipment and was an employee there) that shows alot of New Holland equipment but they made mistakes on models and years made throughout the book and when I mentioned it in a antique club newsletter Norm himself got fisty and said dealers, New Holland and Ford gave him the information, if he was familiar with the New Holland and Ford equipment he could have caught some errors. The Rough and Tumble show in Kinzers, Pa has some equipment sometimes and in 1995 for New Hollands 100th ann. New Holland took the 1937 prototype baler there, an interesting note is that the balers was made across the street from the showgrounds before New Holland bought the baler rights in Dec. 1940.

I am with you on this motrack. There is scant info on the web for anything New Holland.
I can hardly find any books about thier stuff.
I am real interested in learning more.

Kelly: If you took the tractors away from IH, JD, MH, AC, etc., shows, discussions, museums, etc. wouldn't be much discussion there either. Just single out implement alley and NH is the single largest subject.

Motrack, I believe you are correct. How many pieces of restored New Holland equipment do you see at shows? I live right here in New Holland and except for the hit-n-miss engines, there just doesn't seem to be much interest in keeping New Holland history alive. CNH doesn't even have a museum. They have some old equipment put away somewhere, but no interest in showcasing them. Too bad, Steve

Yes , I'd like to know about that museum as well. We went to New Holland for a vacation in the late seventies and enjoyed a tour of the plant and museum. Enjoyed it a lot. I'll always remember that all the industrial machinery in the plant had a note stating how much each machine had cost New Holland and warned the operator to be carefull not to damage it. I always wondered if management ever thought how much their product cost each farmer in comparison.

hey steve, did you ever check out the museaum that NH had there back in the 80s? I had been in it while at service school, they had a nice display. the museaum closed shortly after ford took over.

Yes, I am very familiar with the former museum. It all went downhill when Ford bought out New Holland. They did away with it and Fiat has been no better. It really is disappointing to me as New Holland was involved in machines that I don't even know anything about. Steve

Steve I see you live in New Holland. I am right down the road in Lititz. Do you work for CNH? I worked there this past summer through an internship. I got the oppertunity to go into one of the warehouses behind the R&D engineering buildings. Talk about an amazing amount of equipment. Racks and racks of parts that had been tested then through in a pile. There was a whole area filled with diesel engines that look almost brand new. One area outside the warehouse had several large (100+ hp) tractors with "scrape" painted on the glass of the cab. I asked the one engineer what that was about and he said that once they are done testing the tractors that cut them up with a torch and put them in a dumpster. He said they cant sell the tractors because they were modified for testing and there wouldnt be replacement parts available. Kills me to see them cut up a perfectly good tractor.

Mike -

What sort of internship did you do? I've recently considered applying at NH design.

Jason, I worked in the service parts department. Basically I called suppliers to try and get parts that were backordered shipped to the CNH warehouse. It was a kind of boring job but I got to see who all the suppliers were, and how much CNH paid for the parts. That was pretty cool. I actually tried to get into the engineering internship program, but there werent any openings. Basically to get into the engineering internships you have to know somebody. I graduate in May and talked to CNH about a job in New Holland but because the company is up for sale they arent spending any money. The manager told me "I hope things start to open up in the next few years but right now we are not in a hiring mode." Best of luck to anyone trying to find an engineering job with CNH cause the prospects dont look good.
