More hydraulics question

Sort of a implement question so don't beat me up. OK, dumb me. I bought my tractor new and all I got was the mid-mount valves intended for a front end loader. Thinking about adding the loader. After I do that, I won't have any open valves with it on the tractor so I was thinking about adding a single spool valve and pipe it to the rear of the tractor. Question is, can I do that given I've got a place to "tie in" the hoses. JD says the tractor hydraulics are "open center" and I don't know what that means. I'm not even sure if I can have a second valve bank. This is for a John Deere 5105 if that helps anything. I haven't looked at mounting and such yet. Just trying to figure out if it's possible.
Thanks for any advice.

About 20 years ago, I wanted a setup not available from the tractor manufacturer (or dealer). But built it myself. Surplus Center 1-800-488-3407, new catalog 276, page 18 lists 4 books by Womack on hydraulics. Cost about $120 to buy all 4, but since they were available 20 years ago (and longer), may be available at discount somewhere on the Web. I bought and READ the books. Taught me all I needed to know about the system I wanted and bought most of the parts from Surplus Center at low prices. I suspect that the books and the parts will cost much less than the factory setup. So this is another option for consideration. After reading the books, you will know more than most anyone about hydraulics. I use my books now just occasionally, but have required no other help.

You can purchase a kit with one or possibly two rear remote hydraulic valves (Deere likes to call them SCV's) with couplers. The valve(s) would stack onto the hitch valve located below the right side of the seat. I work on New Hollands, but have customers with 5400 and 5105 Deeres, one with a rear valve, one without. The guy without wants one, but the price is more than he wants to pay. It is probably possible to plumb in a generic valve, but I don't have enough info to be more specific here. Depending on where you were to tap in, a power beyond capable valve may be required if you go the generic route.

I had that added to my Ford 1720 before I picked it up - $600 option. Unfortunately, it has tiny couplers - not what I was expecting. Incompatable with all my standard Ford couplers, or the few Pioneers I have....

So swap them out for the female ISO couplers you want.

Thanks for the comments guys. I should have had it put on when I bought it but at the time, I was getting pretty stretched on $. It's right under a $1000 adder for a double spool. Right under $500 for a single. It would probably be best to do like Rick said and go with a kit from Deere.
Thanks again.
