I have a IH 241 Bigroll Round Baler - The belts stay loose until there is a small core of hay in there and then they are supposed to be tight enough to start rolling - the problem is either my rolls are too smooth (they are smooth) or the belts are too smooth to get any traction on the rollers - -

What can I put on the rollers to make them grabbier - I thought about spraying on some pickup bed liner stuff.....

I only do maybe 20 bales a year so I really don't want to buy new belts just for better traction.....

Hi fisrt off, you baler is strictly IH built not, hesston. Ok, I had a 241 baler for a few years, and liked it fair, but didnt like the pull rope for twine tie. Sounds like your springs need to be re-adjusted, they have been stretched to their limit. What do you mean on your rolls beign smooth? Are you talking about the bales? If thats what you mean, then you might try to start baleing with a touch of dew on it. I have found that helped on mine. Sorry I couldnt help you much. John

Molasses would be a good belt dressing choice since it is not toxic to livestock

I think you baler was built by Hesston. My Hesston had some stuff which looked like sandpaper on the powered roller. I replaced it but has about worn out again. The pickup bed stuff should work

Chris; I'm not familiar with IH balers, but on the Vermeers I've had..... every single time I've had similar problems, it wound up being a roller bearing either rough or gone bad.

In my Shoup catalog I see some sticky tape they sell for such things, in the baler section. I have _no_ experience with this, & don't know if it would hold up, work, etc.

I had a 241 several years ago, best I remeber the later balers had a rubber main roller that really helped get a bale started. If you could find one it would be worth it to change out,if not your idea would probly work or you can buy some friction tape to go around the roller. Good luck.
