Lawrence,

this is a nice baler and i wouldn't go over $1000 if in good shape. things to check because as with all balers there is friction ei; when you mentioned the insulator. but thats only one of many.
1. check the needles especially where the twine runs thru.
2. check the twine fingers by the notter. 3. check the shear blades inside the chute are they sharp and not full of notches from hitting stones and such.
4 how much play for the plunger. are the wooden guides worn or is there still adustments left.
i am not saying these are bad things just things that wear so even after you buy you may have to replace. and the good thing is all is available from new holland yet.

sincerey,
tim

These are a great baler. I bought one new, baled 30,000 bales per year for 15 years. Never did any major repairs in the 15 years. My baler had a thrower. I was always amazed at how little hp this baler required. In the early days I baled with Farmall 300, then later 560 and 656. I have hooked up the Farmall 130 on ocasion, when other tractors were on haylage and got along fine. I have also baled 4,000 bales per day on many ocasions, larger tractors of course. Once had the old 300 bale 9,000 bales in two days.

Rhudson, thank you for the your reply on the condition of the fingers ,rod, and bale chamber. Do you know the difference between #68 and#69. This machine has been sheded. One tire has been replaced. The other one looks original. The other one is pretty cracked The insulater before the twine goes through the needleis wore in about 1'8 inch.

Hi LAwrence,

I'm going out on a limb here, because i do not know the 68. seems a person at the parts counter teld me the 68 had its own engine. its a lot of the 68's and 69's around (still in use). they were good tough bailers. someone at this site should know for sure. mine probable only dropped less than a dozen knots out of the tenthousands of bails i made with it. one day i lent it out to someone and it has never ran again. i guess i ought to work on the old thing and get it going again.
