i was just wondering if anyone has or has had a disc harrow that is adjustable with a crank handle. i have not seen or heard of one in many years. the last one i know of was a sears brand that my uncle bought new in the 1950's. i thought it was a good idea, but probably too expensive to manfacture so it was discontinued. the new ones i see now have removeable pins for adjusting. i was toying with the idea of making some kind of a homemade crank for adjusting mine. anyone have any ideas on this?

All I ever seen with a crank were double action drag type dezigned in the 40's, McCormick 9A-9B was one, also Dunham and I also have a Massey Harris all with crank adjustment

I have a 6' bog harrow (22" discs) that adjusts with a screw crank. It works very well! I'm not sure who the manufacturer was.

I have an old JD disc that adjusts with a crank, actually 2 of them, one shaft runs inside the other. One adjusts the front gangs and one the rear. As said below unless you use the crank a lot they tend to rust and stick. My neighbor has a 6 foot offset disc that has a crank from the 3 point tower to the rear gang. Seems to be to level the disc. Main problem I have when I have used it is that I have to tie the handle in a certain position or it hits the seat on my SMTA Farmall when I raise it.

I always avoided discs like that myself. It seemed that the dust they made would cake up the threds on the adjustment screw, Ive got an IHC corn planter and its adjustable with a screw and crank, and its a whole lot lighter than a disc would be, and its still a pain in the wazoo when I havr ta adjust it. I would think, iffn yer gnna do somthing like you spoke of, Id find a adjustment lever and the notches below it and install it instead. Should be easy if yer disc is 3 pt. If not you might have to pull forward as you makethe adjustment. Just a thought

A brand that was very prevalent here in the Southeast was King. They had a very simple way to do it and it is great to make the changes in the field for hard cutting to final smoothing. I would be happy to supply some pictures if you need them. I have one that was left in a hollar given to me. I put $300 into it but have a GREAT disk harrow that works wonderful behind my tractors on 3pt. I know they are not around any more and that these disks are going up in price. Maybe someone here will know what happened to them. I do know that Agri-Supply has all of the parts you could ever need for one of them though ShepFl. LOL

I have a small 6' one that fits behind a Farmall 140. Mounts on the tractor using single Fast Hitch attachment. It is a very handy to change angle of cut from aggressive to straight. I would think though on larger harrows it would be hard to do given the weight of the gangs.

I find it harder to connect the harrow to the tractor vs. adjusting the harrow.
