We have a one that was purchased new by my grandfather. We used it up until the mid-eighties. It still sits in the shed, and I fire up the cub motor once in a while. We probably should have salvaged the cub motor from it and junked the rest but I can't bring myself to get rid of it. It engine ran great and the rest worked pretty well when we stopped using it but it was just starting to miss too many ties. I guess we'll just keep it and hope to restore it one day as I don't see many around anymore.

Micheal: According to CH Wendel in his book 150 Years of IH, the 50T was produced from 1944 to 1952 and there were over 8,000 built. Wendel does conflict a bit with Gary's figures. He states the 55T was produced from 1953 until 1959, with 13,000 units produced. There were W or wire versions of these balers. Wendel doesn't mention a production figure for 50W, 55W was 16,000 units.

These were preceeded by the model 15 which started as a stationary baler with 4 wheels. In 1940 it had a pickup added to the side of it. There is a picture and that is just what it looks like. A hay press with a pickup. It shows a man forking hay from pickup into bale chamber, and another man threading and tying the wire by hand. I would say 3 men with a good hayloader would put more hay in barn loose.

My tractor pocket book (same thing as an auto blue book) was issued to me in 1967 and it doesn't have a 50T listed. It shows the 55T from 56 through 59, so, it would be older than that. I have a cub motor off one of them. (the 50T)
